Oaklands College and University of Hertfordshire celebrate growth in part-time higher education

Students studying at University Campus St Albans (UCSA) came together with staff to celebrate the growth in these part-time innovative degree programmes with a special dinner at the Stables restaurant at the St Albans Campus.

UCSA is a joint venture between Oaklands College and the University of Hertfordshire and offers a range of HE courses that can be studied part-time, allowing students to fit studying in around their job, family and other commitments.

Rachele Mauro-Knipe, who is studying the degree in Leadership & Personal Development, and works as a senior project manager with Charles Taylor LLP, said: “I saw this course as an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. I commute to London and have a busy schedule but the course content is of a very high standard and is well integrated into my working life and studying is always enjoyable.

“It has really opened my mind to valuing all areas of business and the importance of working relationships. The course has given me something very unique and it has definitely added value to me as an employee.”

The University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Quintin McKellar said: “Part-time graduate level study is crucially important to meet the future skills needs of our economy. Despite the major fall in people studying part-time over the last five years, here in Hertfordshire we are bucking the national trend as UCSA grows from strength to strength.”

Director of UCSA at Oaklands Stephen Fox said: “UCSA has created a new distinctive lower cost model of higher education that offers personalised learning for mature people helping them make a significant difference in the workplace and grow their own careers. UCSA is also now looking to develop new degree apprenticeships for 2017.”
